Nicky Clark admits it ‘will be tough’ for Dundee United to keep Benjamin Siegrist but hopes the reported Rangers target does not seal a late transfer, via quotes by the Glasgow Times.
The goalkeeper has blown the striker away with his efforts between the sticks at Tannadice Park in recent Premiership campaigns. Siegrist also seriously impressed Clark on Saturday as Tam Courts’ side faced Celtic after producing a brilliant save on Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Siegrist produced a raft of stops to keep Dundee United level at Parkhead as he chased a sixth clean sheet. But Liel Abada hit the back of the 30-year-old’s net in the 90th-minute, marking the 24th goal the former Switzerland U21 international has conceded in 19 games.

Clubs now eying January or summer moves for Siegrist, who is out of contract in May, does not surprise Clark. But the Terrors striker hopes Courts’ side can rebuff any interest in last-ditch deals. Siegrist also noted recently he does not rule out a new contract, via The Herald.
Rangers are among the clubs tracking Siegrist in view of a transfer for Dundee United’s shot-stopper, per the Daily Mail. He also has suitors in England with Southampton, plus in Germany, France and Belgium. But the Gers plan to strike a pre-contract for a free transfer.
“Big Benji was brilliant against Celtic,” Clark said. “But I have seen him do that for the last four-years. He is tremendous… The save he made with his feet [against Giakoumakis] in the second-half was just out of this world. I don’t know how he does it.
“I can understand the interest in him. He has made great saves for us at crucial times, he is 6 ft 5 tall and comes and gets crosses. He has been brilliant for us.
“When he plays like he did against Celtic he is obviously going to attract interest from other teams. I hope we can keep him, but if he keeps producing saves like that it will be tough.”

Like Clark, Courts will want to deny Rangers a deadline day transfer for Siegrist, should the Ibrox natives move late. It is not impossible that Giovanni van Bronckhorst tries to beat the queue forming to sign the goalkeeper as he chases Allan McGregor’s long-term successor.
The Terrors already have Siegrist’s replacement at the club after signing Carljohan Eriksson earlier this month. Dundee United will surely also want to avoid Siegrist going for free with clubs like Rangers exploring transfers, either on deadline day or at the end of the season.
