Speaking on Sky Sports News (31/8/21) 3:25PM, Jamie Redknapp has been discussing Arsenal’s transfer business, namely the signing of Ben White.
White was the Gunners’ biggest signing of the summer, costing a whopping £50m, and there have been plenty of question marks around whether or not the defender is worth the fee.
His debut performance against Brentford was questionable, and since then he’s not played a game due to the fact he tested positive for coronavirus.
While some may be worried about White, Redknapp believes the defender will eventually be fantastic for the Gunners.
What’s been said?
Redknapp gave his verdict on White.
“He can’t save Arsenal on his own, and Arsenal fans need to have patience with this guy he’s not necessarily a leading centre-back, he plays alongside someone who will go and head the ball and he’ll sweep up alongside him. Be patient with him, he’s going to be fantastic. The pressure at Arsenal is huge right now, and he’s one for the long-term, because the pressure at Arsenal is huge right now,” Redknapp said.

Needs to make an impact now
It’s all well and good signing a player who is going to be great eventually, but when you’re spending £50m on a centre-back, you expect them to make an impact immediately.
Signing for the future is a genius strategy when you’re in a position of strength, but Arsenal need players who are going to make an instant impact – after all, they are bottom of the league.
Let’s hope White can get into his groove sooner rather than later, because if Arsenal’s defensive issues continue this could be a very long season for the London club.
