Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Chelsea’s forgotten man Marc Cucurella to join Thomas Franks Brentford in January.
Mauricio Pochettino seemingly doesn’t see a future for Marc Cucurella with the left-back only making one appearance for Chelsea this season.
The former Brighton star, who won the club’s Player of the Season award in his first campaign at the Amex Stadium, has struggled like many big-money signings under the Todd Boehly reign.
Former Aston Villa striker Agonlahor made it clear that, if he was Brentford and given the possible season-ending injury to Rico Henry, then I am being ‘cheeky’ and putting in an offer for the unwanted Chelsea star in January, as he told talkSPORT (26/09/23 at 6:15 am).
There was a big clearout at Stamford Bridge in the summer, yet even though so many players were sold, there is still another pile of unwanted stars left.
Marc Cucurella is certainly one of those and given that he has been warming the bench for every game, bar one, then it’s clear that he needs to leave.

Marc Cucurella to Brentford?
“What’s he worth then? That’s the problem,” said Agbonlahor. “I think he would still get a decent move. It’s just, what is the fee? Is it a loan?
“When you don’t play, your value drops so much. He was £62 million. Is he £30 million now? Will Chelsea sell him for 30? Loan him out? If he isn’t in the manager’s plans will they think ‘let’s get some money back for him’, so that’s the problem.
“It’s like Jadon Sancho. What he is worth now? Bought for £72 million. What is he worth now if they want to sell him in January? Half? You lose so much when you aren’t playing. You have to (cut your losses).
“As a club, you know that if you want to get rid of Cucurella, and he isn’t in the manager’s plans, okay, if I am going to be cheeky, then I am Brentford. Rico Henry is injured. I would be like in January ‘how about a loan?’.”

Grass isn’t always greener
Inside his first season at Brighton, Cucurella was picking up the big awards and being applauded left, right and centre.
But it just goes to show that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side because since moving to Stamford Bridge all of that has come crashing down.
Whether it’s to Brentford, another European team, back to Brighton or a team struggling near the bottom. The Spanish star simply needs to move when the January transfer window re-opens.
