Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage reacted to the suggestion that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool should look to sign Arsenal defender Ben White.
Robbie Savage thinks that if Ben White made the unlikely switch from Mikel Arteta’s side to Liverpool then he would be ‘first choice’.
A Liverpool fan suggested that he would like his team to sign the versatile Arsenal defender and threw it on the table that he could cost ‘£70 million’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
But Chris Sutton made it clear that he wouldn’t pay that sort of money for Ben White, who initially cost Arsenal £50 million following his transfer from Brighton in 2021 (Sky Sports).
At the time, the 26-year-old had only played one whole season in England’s top flight, after previously helping Leeds United earn promotion from the Championship whilst on loan at the Yorkshire club.
Liverpool certainly still have issues at the back, with Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage reacting to the claim that it should be sorted by bringing in someone like Ben White.
Ben White at Liverpool
“He’s proven himself and is young enough to be able to bring something to the Liverpool team. We need to bring in players like that to make the backline stronger,” said the Liverpool fan.
Savage responded: “Would Ben White make Liverpool stronger in that position? I think he has played the majority at right-back for Arsenal. Ben White would be first-choice. How much would he cost? They paid £50 million for him, and he is playing in a team that challenged Man City last season and only lost one game in the league this season, how much would he cost?”
Sutton added and was asked if he would pay ‘£70 million’: “This is irrelevant. Not at this moment in time.”

Ben White is under the radar at Arsenal
Whether it’s this season or last season, the likes of William Saliba, or now Declan Rice, seem to get the headlines when talking about defensive Arsenal players.
But White’s performances at the back, whether it’s at centre-back or now in his usual right-back role, have been outstanding.
It feels like he does go under the radar for an Arsenal side that has been outstanding for the past two seasons but has shot themselves in the foot by not winning the Premier League title.
Will White join Liverpool? Absolutely not, he is a key player for Arteta. Plus, the Reds would have to pay top, top dollar for him and that’s not in FSG’s nature.
