Garth Crooks has warned former club Tottenham Hotspur that there could be repercussions if they continue to fall short in their pursuit of silverware.
Tottenham lost a FA Cup semi final against rivals Chelsea at the weekend, beaten 4-2 at Wembley as they put in a rare defensively poor display.
Spurs’ talented side have been winning plaudits for their impressive progress but this was the second Wembley defeat they have suffered to Chelsea, beaten in the 2015 League Cup final.
Crooks told BBC Sport that if Tottenham cannot win a trophy soon, their team could begin to disintegrate with players looking elsewhere to do so.
He said: “If Tottenham are going to progress they have to develop a ruthless streak.
“They play the most glorious football, often orchestrated by Eriksen, but if they don’t win something soon it could signal the break-up of a team and that would be a great shame.”

Tottenham could yet end up winning the Premier League title this season, sitting just four points behind Chelsea after reducing their lead which at one point was in double figures.
Even if they do not, this season they have made rapid progress and the lure of playing in their new stadium from 2018 will be enough to keep the club’s top players put, while head coach Mauricio Pochettino is the glue which holds the team together.
So long as they keep the Argentine put, Tottenham have a bright future and a trophy is only a matter of time.
