Former Tottenham Hotspur star Garth Crooks has warned the club not to get complacent – or too reliant on Harry Kane.
Spurs sit in second place in the Premier League table and won 3-2 at home to Everton at the weekend, continuing their unbeaten record at White Hart Lane this season.
They are strongly fancied to secure a Champions League place for next season, and ready to pounce if runaway league leaders slip up.
“Spurs are looking good at the moment, but a top-four spot is by no means guaranteed. There are six teams competing for four places and one spot has already gone to Chelsea, in my opinion.
“I expect Manchester City to win a Champions League place which leaves Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United looking to join the elite.
“Spurs are developing nicely, but Kane needs to continue with this form if they intend to compete with the best Europe have to offer next season. Anything short of a top-four place would be disastrous for the team and would badly hinder their progress.”
Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal have slipped down into fifth place as a result of their defeat to Liverpool at the weekend, and are six points behind. Manchester United are in sixth place, seven points back from Tottenham.
Spurs have experienced late disappointments in seasons before, with the 2015/16 season a case in point. This fresh memory could drive them on to ensure there is no repeat.
