Mark Lawrenson has urged Carlo Ancelotti to ‘not give’ a recall to Jordan Pickford on Saturday when Everton take on Manchester United, as he told BBC Sport.

During Everton’s defeat to Newcastle last time out, Ancelotti opted to select summer signing Robin Olsen in between the sticks and he impressed on his Everton debut.

But the Italian made it clear that Pickford will return to the starting fold for the Manchester United showdown despite dropping the Englishman to the bench at St James’ Park, as he told the Liverpool Echo.

Along with Pickford, it also seems playmaker James Rodriguez will also return to the fold and Lawrenson made it clear that will be a ‘huge boost’ for the Merseyside giants.

“Everton have now only picked up one point from their past three games but they should have James Rodriguez back from injury for this one,” said Lawrenson.

“That will be a huge boost because Rodriguez will make a big difference. I would not give Jordan Pickford a recall in goal, though, because Robin Olsen did well against Newcastle last weekend.”

Despite his problems between the sticks once again this season, Pickford is still being picked as a number one, for both club and country.

Gareth Southgate announced his England squad for the forthcoming international matches today and Pickford has been selected once again.

Despite Pickford’s performances being full of errors in recent times, it seems as though the coaches on the touchline are the only ones who are keeping real faith and loyalty in him.
