Leeds United lost against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship on Monday.

Pablo Hernandez celebrates scoring the second goal for Leeds United

Leeds United failed to return to winning ways in the Championship on Monday afternoon. The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

Nouha Dicko’s goal in the 38th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides. The result means that Leeds are now seventh in the Championship table with 73 points from 43 matches.

The performance of the West Yorkshire outfit against Wolves was disappointing. A number of players failed to perform to the best of their abilities, and among them was Pablo Hernandez.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he was not impressed with the performance of Hernandez.

“Hernandez took a lot of touches but didn’t really hurt anyone,” Whelan told BBC Sport. “Your number ten is your special player who makes things happen – you saw a lot of possession at Hernandez’s feet, but no end product.

“He was way back firing the ball forward at times – you want Phillips to do that role, and then Hernandez to be pulling the strings around the box. You could have taken the whole midfield off at half time.”

Hernandez has scored five goals and created 86 chances in 32 Championship appearances for Leeds so far this season.

Garry Monk’s side will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Burton Albion away from home at the Pirelli Stadium in the Championship.
