Tottenham beat Chelsea to the signing of Fernando Llorente.
Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a coup by beating Chelsea to the signature of Fernando Llorente last night.
Spurs signed Llorente in a £14 million move from Swansea City, while Chelsea failed to add another striker.
This was despite Llorente previously working under Blues boss Antonio Conte at Juventus.
Former Premier League ace Trevor Sinclair has told BBC Sport that he believes he is a strong signing for Spurs.
Speaking to the BBC’s live coverage at 11.20pm, Sinclair said: “Fernando Llorente is a great plan B for Spurs.
“His hold up play is superb and he scores goals.
“If you want to go a bit more direct at times you can go to him.”
Sinclair added that their capture asks big questions of Tottenham’s long term rivals Chelsea.
He said: “The bigger story on this is that Antonio Conte has missed out on him. For him to turn down Chelsea and go to Tottenham is a big blow. They’ve lost five or six in this window – it’s disappointing for Chelsea.”
Llorente scored 15 goals last season for a struggling Swansea side and has vital Champions League experience which many in Tottenham’s side lack.
It is a departure from Tottenham’s usual strategy to sign a 32-year-old, but they have signed a player who should take no time to adjust and who is an upgrade on struggling Dutchman Vincent Janssen.
