Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has impressed Garth Crooks with his maturity since Harry Kane’s departure.

Son Heung-min has really stepped up for Tottenham Hotspur following Harry Kane’s summer move to Bayern Munich.

That is the view of pundit Garth Crooks, who has been speaking about Son in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport.

Son continued his strong derby day performance with two more goals against Arsenal on Sunday.

The South Korean converted two James Maddison assists to twice bring Tottenham from behind, securing a 2-2 draw in the North London derby.

Son’s performance unsurprisingly landed him in the Team of the Week for Crooks, a former Tottenham man himself.

Crooks suggested that Son took his goals ‘brilliantly’ as Tottenham grabbed a point at the Emirates Stadium.

Crooks also claims that he sees a real ‘maturity’ in Son’s game since the departure of Harry Kane.

Kane left for Bayern Munich over the summer and Son’s start to the season means few Spurs fans are talking about Kane’s exit anymore.

“Since the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, I detect a maturity in Son’s game I haven’t seen before – I also see a better team player this season,” said Crooks. “Both of Tottenham’s goals were brilliantly taken by Son,” he added.

Kane exit has cleared the way for Son rise

Son would probably admit himself that last season was one of his worst as a Tottenham player.

The 31-year-old just didn’t get going under Antonio Conte and needed a fresh start under a new manager.

Ange Postecoglou has come in and done just that, helping Son find his best form again.

Son has started the campaign with five goals in six games and is thriving as a central striker in Kane’s absence.

It’s not just in front of goal where Son is thriving in Kane’s absence, as he has now become Spurs captain and is showing his leadership qualities this season.

We loved watching Son and Kane as a partnership, but Son now appears to be stepping out as Tottenham’s go-to man.
