Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier was ‘taken apart’ by Son Heung-min during Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 victory on Sunday.

That is verdict of pundit and former Tottenham man Garth Crooks, who has been speaking to BBC Sport after Spurs beat Newcastle United.

Newcastle headed to North London and were given a real battering with Destiny Udogie and Richarlison putting Spurs 2-0 up by the break.

Richarlison and Son Heung-min made it 4-0 before a Joelinton consolation put Newcastle on the board.

Newcastle suffered yet another away day nightmare and right back Kieran Trippier had arguably his toughest game of the season.

Garth Crooks feels Son Heung-min terrorised Kieran Trippier

Trippier has suffered over the last few days.

The England right back committed two major errors in the 3-0 defeat at Everton on Thursday night.

Trippier was then beaten by Son for Tottenham’s first two goals, struggling to deal with the South Korean.

Son twice beat Trippier to the byline before cutting back for Spurs to score two simple goals.

Pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Trippier was simply ‘taken apart’ by Son before eventually being taken off.

“Kieran Trippier, who has featured so prominently this season for the Magpies, was taken apart by Son and eventually substituted,” said Crooks.

If any Premier League full backs knows what to expect from Son, it’s probably Trippier.

Trippier and Son both joined Tottenham in the summer of 2015 and spent four years in North London together before Trippier left for Atletico Madrid.

The pair played 93 times together at Tottenham, enjoying a fruitful time under Mauricio Pochettino.

Trippier and Son will have also faced each other plenty of times in training, so the England star would have fancied his chance of a strong showing on Sunday.

Son was the better player on the day though, recording two assists and a goal in a superb performance.

This has been a week to forget for Trippier but we know how good he can be and would expect him to be back to his best soon enough.
