Pundit Garth Crooks believes Leandro Trossard is ‘very unlucky’ to not start more games for Arsenal after scoring the winner against Everton.

Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard has been hailed as a ‘top-class’ player after his performance against Everton on Sunday.

That’s the view of pundit Garth Crooks, who has been speaking about Trossard in his Team of the Week column for BBC Sport.

Arsenal were looking to avoid another dismal trip to Goodison Park having lost 1-0 to the Toffees earlier this year.

Gunners fans would have been forgiven for feeling this would be another one of those days when Gabriel Martinelli’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Martinelli went off injured too but his replacement stepped up as Trossard fired home a superb winner in the second half, giving Arsenal a 1-0 victory.

Garth Crooks praises Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard

Trossard swept the ball home from Bukayo Saka’s cut-back to give Arsenal a valuable three points on the road.

The Belgian started on the bench but made his impact felt, leaving pundit Crooks hugely impressed.

Crooks suggested that Arsenal had a real ‘luxury’ as they were able to replace a top-class player in Martinelli with another one in Trossard.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker added that Trossard is actually ‘very unlucky’ to not start more games, believing that Mikel Arteta’s juggling of the Arsenal squad is getting ‘a little problematic’.

“There can’t be many teams with the ability to lose a top-class player through injury and replace him with another. Arsenal had to take off Gabriel Martinelli after just 22 minutes at Goodison Park but had the luxury of bringing on Trossard,” said Crooks.

“The Belgium international made an immediate impact and slotted in past Jordan Pickford as part of the most exquisite move I’ve seen from Arsenal for some time. Trossard is very unlucky not to be in the Gunners’ starting line-up, as the selection process for Mikel Arteta is starting to get a little problematic,” he added.

Trossard may now be primed for Arsenal chance

Martinelli suffered his injury whilst scoring an offside goal, hitting Arsenal with something of a double whammy.

If Martinelli faces time on the sidelines – which seems fairly likely – then Trossard could be the next man up for Arsenal.

The £27million January signing from Brighton and Hove Albion has made an impact whenever given a real chance to shine.

Trossard is a natural fit down the left flank and Martinelli’s injury is exactly why Arsenal have invested in quality competition like the 28-year-old.

Sunday’s impact showed what Trossard can do in the final third and he may now have a chance to show it regularly.
