LISBON, PORTUGAL - AUGUST 23: Thiago of FC Bayern Muenchen fills the trophy with champagne next to team mate Serge Gnabry during the celebration in the dressing room following their team's victory in the UEFA Champions League Final match against Paris Saint-Germain at Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on August 23, 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal. Kieron Dyer has told The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live that Liverpool would become ‘really formidable’ if they signed Thiago this summer.

The former Newcastle player thinks that the Premier League champions don’t need to strengthen that much in the transfer market because of how they dominated during the recently concluded campaign.

For many months now, Bayern Munich’s midfield technician has been linked with the Merseyside giants, as reported by The Mirror.

Kostas Tsimikas has been Liverpool’s only signing thus far, as Dyer shared his thoughts on their transfer window and the potential signing of Thiago.

“Liverpool haven’t really had to sign anyone,” Dyer told BBC Radio 5 Live. “[But] win the league by 20 points do you really need to strengthen your squad?

“They have obviously been linked with Thiago, which would be absolutely massive for them. A lot of their creativity comes from their fullbacks. We only question the midfield three about how many goals and assists they get.

“He [Thiago] would give them another option. It would make them really formidable. I don’t think Liverpool have to recruit too much, they are the best team in the league by miles. It was shown last season. Liverpool will be fine.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

The prospect of Thiago arriving at Anfield is exciting the Liverpool faithful, but the deal dragging on isn’t helping anyone’s cause.

The word ‘mentality monsters’ was branded about when Liverpool were leaving their business late last season and their midfield defines that.

But a sprinkle of glamour and attacking zip is needed, as Thiago would offer that with ease because he showed during Bayern Munich’s Champions League run that he does have the qualities to elevate Klopp’s midfield.
