Michael Stewart has suggested on Twitter that Celtic could be trying to bring Fraser Forster back from Southampton.
The former Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian midfielder, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, made the comments following Celtic’s defeat to AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Neil Lennon’s side were 2-0 up at San Siro after just 14 minutes, but they conceded four goals thereafter to go down 4-2 in the Europa League game.
Stewart was not impressed by the display produced by 26-year-old Greece international goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.
The BBC pundit has said that it would not surprise him if Celtic are already trying to do a deal with Southampton over the transfer of Forster.
The 32-year-old English goalkeeper spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at the Hoops from the Saints and helped the club win the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup last season.
Celtic have already been knocked out of the Europa League and the Scottish League Cup this season, and are as many as 11 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, although they do have two games in hand.
