Billy Dodds has told Rangers boss Steven Gerrard that he should sell Alfredo Morelos, if the reported figures are accurate.

Footmercato reported this past weekend that Ligue 1 outfit Rennes are keen on the 23-year-old hitman.

The report added that Rangers would be willing to sell up if a £15 million offer came their way.

Morelos had a brilliant 2019-20 in terms of goals, having scored 29 times across all competitions.

But that number doesn’t tell the full story about the Colombian’s season, by virtue of the fact that 28 of them were scored during the first half of the campaign.

Morelos, like all of his Rangers team-mates, was hugely disappointing after the winter break, scoring only once.

And Ibrox legend Dodds has told BBC Sportsound: “I’ve always said I think Rangers have to go another route when it comes to Alfredo Morelos. If they get that sort of money, I would certainly be thinking of cashing in.

“If that kind of money comes in, and I’m not sure it will, if I was Steven Gerrard, I would cash in and try to go another direction in stopping Celtic winning 10 in a row.”

This is a brave call from Dodds but it has some merit.

On one hand, Morelos could be considered Rangers’ best weapon in the fight against thwarting Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid.

By the same token, the South American, who hasn’t scored against the Hoops since arriving in Glasgow in 2017, can be a nuisance for the wrong reasons and if £15 million comes in, Gerrard might well consider it.
