If the Liverpool boss legitimately wants another number nine to compete with Roberto Firmino then the search for one should, in theory, be going ahead.
And one of the club’s former defenders seems to have a player in mind.
Stephen Warnock has told BBC Radio 5 Live that the German manager should pursue a reunion with former Borussia Dortmund hitman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 31-year-old has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season but, with his Arsenal contract expiring in 11 months, has been heavily linked with an exit.
Klopp once signed the Gabon international for Dortmund, and Warnock believes that a reunion at Liverpool makes sense.
He said: “If I was Jurgen Klopp, I’d be going for him with a year left on his contract, and you’re wanting a goalscorer who can either come off the bench or play on a regular basis.
“Aubameyang will be on big wages, but he won’t cost you big money to get him out with a year left on his contract and the age that he’s at.”
He’s getting older, but last night he scored twice against Norwich City to become the fastest player in the club’s history to score 50 Premier League goals, indicating that he can, in fact, be a huge asset to Liverpool despite his advancing years.
