BBC Sport pundit Matthew Kilgallon has said that Leeds United will not be able to sign Jamaal Lascelles from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
The former Leeds United centre-back has said on BBC Radio Leeds that Jamaal Lascelles’s wages at Newcastle United would be too much for the West Yorkshire club.
Kilgallon made the comments regarding Lascelles when a Leeds fan suggested the 29-year-old centre-back as a potential signing for Daniel Farke’s side in the summer transfer window.
Lascelles has been on the books of Newcastle since 2014 and is under contract at the Premier League club until the summer of 2024.
The defender earns £55,000 per week at Newcastle, according to SalarySport.

Kilgallon said: “Lascelles, I like him. I think he has done it before, he came up with Newcastle, didn’t he?
“But he is on big money. Lascelles and the Newcastle boys are on big dough.
“It wouldn’t be a swap for swap wages-wise there, so I don’t think they will be able to get him.”
Jamaal Lascelles unlikely to leave Newcastle United for Leeds United
We do not think that Jamaal Lascelles will leave Newcastle United for Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle will aim to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season and will also play in the UEFA Champions League.
Leeds are playing in the Championship.
Yes, Lascelles is going to find it hard to play week in and week out for Newcastle, but we do not see the 29-year-old leaving a club in the UEFA Champions League to turn out for a team in the second tier of English football.
And if the defender did leave this summer, then he could easily find another club in the Premier League.
Luton Town have been linked with him.
Leeds, though, could do with a player like Lascelles who is very experienced, knows how to defend and has played in the Championship.
