Clinton Morrison has advised Dele Alli to quit Tottenham Hotspur after claiming that he doesn’t feel head coach Jose Mourinho loves him any longer.
The 24-year-old has been given a bit-part role by Mourinho this season and their relationship soured a little bit on Wednesday night.
Tottenham beat Stoke City 3-1 to move into the semi-final of the League Cup, but it was a botched flick from Alli which saw the Championship side equalise early in the second half.
Mourinho lambasted the former MK Dons star on the touchline and refused to acknowledge him 10 minutes later when the Portuguese subbed him off for Moussa Sissoko.
With Alli already linked with moves away from North London in Januay, Wednesday’s incident will have done nothing to help his chances of staying with Mourinho’s senior squad beyond next month.
And Morrison feels that it might be time for Alli – signed by Mauricio Pochettino – to leave the club, arguing that the former Chelsea and Manchester United coach does not seem to love him.
He told BBC Sport: “Dele Alli is a talented boy but I think there comes a time where a player needs a change. He’s a confidence player and he needs a manager to love him and I don’t think Jose Mourinho is loving him at the moment and that’s why he’s not involved in a lot of Spurs games in the Premier League. But there’s no doubt he’s a talented player.”
Is Morrison right? Unfortunately for Alli, probably.
Mourinho either loves you or doesn’t and, as of right now, it does definitely seem like Alli is in the group of players who the coach just has no time for.
There’s no more Europa League games against inferior opposition from next year, which means Mourinho is only going to use the player less and less, so perhaps it is time to move on.
