Tottenham Hotspur fans expected their side to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League title race this season.
BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson wrote off Spurs’ chances of winning the Premier League title this season, when speaking on BBC’s Football Focus programme broadcast on February 2nd, and highlighted their need to bring in better players to accompany Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men came close to winning their first league title since 1961 last season, before crumbling during the final four games, and they have impressed once again this term, although they still sit nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
And Lawrenson, who won five league titles and a European Cup during his time with Liverpool, praised Tottenham for their defensive solidarity, but explained why he believes they will come up short once again this season, when speaking on BBC’s Football Focus programme:

“I don’t see them Tottenham winning it. I would say they probably needed a little bit of an upgrade in terms of players alongside Kane and Alli. I think they draw a lot of games. I think they’re extremely well organised, defensively they’re very, very good, but just a little bit short.”

This summer will be a hugely important one for Tottenham, if they are to make genuine progress, not only on the domestic front, but in Europe as well.
Despite Spurs undoubtedly being a very good side, there is an argument to suggest that they need one more world class player in their side, just to help give them the edge they need when they are involved in a tight game.

And with the addition of a top-class player, maybe then they will start turning some of the draws into wins, and in turn, go on and win their first league title in more than 56 years.
