BBC pundit suggests Liverpool man’s career is over & new boy is ‘level above him’

Stephen Warnock has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live (24/09/20 at 19:45 pm) that Divock Origi’s career could be over at Liverpool and playing 90 minutes ‘week in and week out’ elsewhere could be ‘appealing to him’.

The former left-back also claimed that new signing Jota is a ‘level above’ the Liverpool legend because he is more capable of ‘changing a game’ from the bench than the Belgian.

Origi made a rare start for Liverpool tonight when Jurgen Klopp selected him from the get-go during their League Cup win against Lincoln City.

But with the arrival of the versatile Jota from Wolves this summer, Warnock feels the left-footed attacker is a better option than Origi and a move away could be appealing for the latter.

“One thing that’s always going to be for sure with Origi is that he’s written into Liverpool folklore for his part in the Barcelona games and scoring a goal in the Champions League final,” Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“But is he going to be the player that can come off the bench consistently and change a game? I think what you bought in Jota is a player who is probably a level above from Divock Origi and more than capable of coming on and changing a game.

“I just wonder whether Origi might have found it a little difficult to sit on the bench last season and play a bit-part role. I think maybe the lure of going to play football for 90 minutes, week in and week out might be more appealing to him.”

If Liverpool decided to part ways with Origi then surely it wouldn’t be on-loan because from a financial perspective they won’t benefit from it.

There’s no point allowing him to leave on a temporary basis because whilst Origi is simply a back-up, he is still useful as a squad player, as he proved tonight.

But if the prospect of money being put on the table is put forward to the champions of England then it could be appealing for the Merseyside club.
