Clinton Morrison has told BBC Sport that he felt Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar was ‘sloppy’ throughout his side’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Newcastle actually claimed a credible point at Molineux, with a late free-kick from Jacob Murphy ensuring that Steve Bruce’s side did not return to Tyneside pointless.

But Morrison felt that Schar’s display was not of the required quality, with the Swiss defender coming in for criticism.

“Fabian Schar has to be doing better today. He’s been sloppy,” Morrison said. “He’s a Swiss international so has to be doing better!”

Schar was stationed in a three man central defence for Newcastle yesterday, and he may put his poor performance down to a lack of sharpness.

Schar missed a lot of the early part of the campaign with injury, and has only recently returned to full fitness.

Indeed, yesterday was his first full game of the season, with Bruce using him cautiously previously.

Despite his below par display, Newcastle’s injury problems are so bad at the moment that Schar may well keep his place due to a lack of alternative options.

The Magpies are due to take on top of the table Everton in their next outing on Sunday.
