Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been criticised by pundit Garth Crooks after his spat with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Garth Crooks feels Darwin Nunez ‘tried his best to spoil’ Liverpool’s 1-1 draw away at Manchester City on Saturday.

Liverpool headed to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon and were seeking a big result against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Erling Haaland put City ahead but they failed to find a second goal – and Liverpool made them pay with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s superb leveller.

Liverpool will be happy with a point, but may not be quite as happy with striker Nunez having a row with Guardiola.

Nunez appeared to be having a heated exchange of words with Guardiola as the full-time whistle blew on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp had to pull Nunez away, later suggesting to This Is Anfield that emotions simply took over.

Guardiola played down the situation too, but that hasn’t stopped pundit Garth Crooks from slamming Nunez.

Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Nunez ‘tried his best’ to spoil Liverpool’s ‘good performance’ against City.

Crooks thinks that Nunez should spend more time focusing on scoring goals rather than getting into spats with managers.

“This was a good performance by Liverpool at Manchester City, although Darwin Nunez tried his best to spoil it,” said Crooks. “Nunez should really spend his time concentrating on why he’s not scoring more goals instead of picking fights and venting his frustrations with the opposition manager because he’s been substituted,” he added.

We would argue that Nunez is something of an easy target at this point.

Gary Neville kept comparing Nunez and Haaland during Saturday’s coverage after the Uruguayan missed a chance from a Dominik Szoboszlai pass.

That chance was nowhere near as clear-cut as Haaland’s goal and none of Nunez’s opportunities were particularly gilt-edged.

Could Nunez show a bit more composure in the final third? Of course, and that’s what will hold him back more than an argument with Guardiola.

Nunez’s spat didn’t ruin the day and we can’t imagine many Liverpool fans will be all that bothered about the Uruguayan’s row.

In fact, many will probably love the passion from Nunez as Liverpool look to ruffle City feathers once again this season.
