New York Times journalist, Rory Smith, has hilariously told BBC Radio 5 Liver Sport that Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, was once ‘quite cross’ with him for being critical of German bread.
The talk of food first started when Chris Sutton claimed that Liverpool’s neighbours, Everton, ‘don’t have the right ingredients’ to push forward under Carlo Ancelotti, as he opted to use lasagne to make his point.
That’s when Rory Smith, who is a regular pundit for BBC, shared his story about him being critical of ‘German bread’ in front of the Liverpool boss, who didn’t take it quite well.
This is what Sutton had to say about Everton, before Smith shared his story about Liverpool’s man in the dugout.
“They have a guy in Carlo Ancelotti,” said Sutton. “You can be the best chef in the world at cooking lasagne, if you don’t have the right ingredients, the right mince, the right pasta sheets or the right tomatoes then you’re not going to make the best lasagne. And that’s Ancelotti’s problem.
“This is the point, isn’t it?! It’s where they (Everton) have been shopping. And he doesn’t have the right ingredients.”
The former Premier League winner was then pulled and questioned whether he is being ‘stereotypical’ by picking ‘lasagne’ as an example to make a point about Everton, who have an Italian manager in charge.
And then NYT journalist then proceeded to tell a story about Klopp.
“He is big on German bread is Jurgen Klopp,” shared Smith. “I once made the mistake of criticising German bread in front of Jurgen Klopp and he got very testy.
“I think I mentioned that I didn’t really rate German bread compared to Italian and he got genuinely quite cross. He couldn’t believe it.”

Well, Everton certainly had the right ingredients to record their first win at Anfield this century, but all that matters is if they can secure European football.
Their home form has hurt them badly this season and, after aspiring to finish in the top four, they may even miss out on Europe altogether.
But it’s not exactly rosy in the Liverpool garden either because whilst fans would look towards the injuries they have suffered, they are potentially going from being champions of England to playing in the Europa League.
