Chris Sutton has swatted away suggestions that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should be sacked.

Arteta has come under some criticism at Arsenal after their 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa yesterday.

The Gunners never got going in the contest, with Arteta’s tactics heavily criticised.

The Spanish boss played Kieran Tierney in central defence, and his persistence with starting Pierre Emerick Aubameyang down the left-wing still frustrates some supporters.

Arsenal have also looked painfully defensive-minded at times this term.

But Sutton still feels that it is far too early to be calling for Arteta’s head.

Should Arteta go?

It is hard to disagree with Sutton’s verdict as, although there are issues at Arsenal, Arteta has still made a bright start to life in management.

Arteta has masterminded victories over the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool during his time at the club so far, and he has also helped Arsenal win the FA Cup.

While this season has not gone to plan, now is surely the time for the Gunners to be patient, as the signs are that when things click they could be a real force under Arteta in the future.
