Chris Sutton has said that Tim Sherwood always told him that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was as good as a number 10 as he is a number nine, as per his comments to the Monday Night Club, which was broadcast on BBC Radio Five Live.

Kane has been lauded for his goalscoring abilities throughout his career, but this season has creative skill has also shone through.

Kane has claimed 10 assists already this season, with Jose Mourinho tasking him with dropping deep to link the play.

And Sutton has now revealed that Sherwood always said that Kane was able to excel in a less advanced role.

“Speaking to Tim Sherwood a couple of years back he saw Kane come through the ranks and always said ‘it’s difficult to nail him down, what his best position is. He’s really good as a number nine, but he can play the 10 role as well,'” Sutton revealed.

“He’s always been so good in terms of his awareness and ability as a focal point of the team. He’s a clever passer of the ball, but we’re seeing it more now.

“If there’s anything he lacks it’s a bit of pace, but he’s the most important part of the Spurs team and him and Son have had rave reviews all season.”

Kane’s tendency to drop into deeper areas this season has allowed the runners around him to thrive.

Heung-Min Son has already netted nine goals this season, with Kane’s movement often creating the space for him to exploit.

Kane was certainly too much for City to handle last weekend, as Tottenham beat them 2-0.

Although the England captain didn’t get on the scoresheet he caused Pep Guardiola’s side no end of problems, as he put in a magnificent display.
