What a disaster for Tottenham Hotspur.
Jose Mourinho’s side raced into a 3-0 lead inside 15 minutes during tonight’s visit of West Ham United.
The Hammers threw themselves a slight lifeline on 82 minutes by pulling one back, before an own goal from Davinson Sanchez three minutes increased anxiety among the Spurs lads.
And Manuel Lanzini scored a stunning equaliser from some 25 yards at the very death for the Hammers, prompting manager David Moyes to sprint on to the pitch in celebration.
Here’s how Stephen Warnock reacted to the goal on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Oh my word. What a strike. He just unleashes it from 20 yards out into the top corner. David Moyes ran on to the pitch Mourinho style pumping his fist in the air. No-one saw this coming.”
Son Heung-min opened the scoring inside 45 seconds, before a quickfire brace from Harry Kane had Tottenham in complete control.
But credit to West Ham, they refused to give up, rode their luck at times in the form of missed chances from Kane and Gareth Bale – on his second debut for the North Londoners – and their belief was rewarded in the end.
Spurs went into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 6-1 win at Manchester United as Jose Mourinho’s side flashed their title credentials to England’s elite.
And although this result far from crushes their chances of winning the Premier League, it is a reminder that there’s work to do.
