Garth Crooks has shared what he saw Duncan Ferguson doing during Everton’s capitulation on Saturday.

Everton were, at one point, leading 2-1 against Claudio Ranieri’s Watford at Goodison Park.

But bizarrely, Rafael Benitez’s side wound up losing 5-2 somehow.

It was an epic capitulation for a Toffees side that conceded three times in the last 10 minutes.

The Spanish manager cut a forlorn figure on the touchline and Ferguson, a first-team coach at Everton, mirrored pretty much every fan inside the stadium.

According to Crooks, Ferguson had his head in his hands at one point during the mauling.

He told BBC Sport: “To see boss Rafa Benitez standing on the touchline motionless and assistant manager Duncan Ferguson with his head in his hands said all you needed to know about Everton’s performance.”

Unstuck

The wheels are coming off for Everton a little bit in recent weeks.

Benitez oversaw a near-flawless first month in charge of the Merseysiders, securing seven points from a possible nine.

But the Toffees only have one point from their last three Premier League games now.

Confidence is such a big thing in football and Benitez’s troops would’ve shed quite a lot of it collectively in Saturday’s performance and result.

Next up is a trip to Wolves next Monday, which could be a perfect game.

It isn’t a banker for Everton by any means but, by the same token, nor is it that hard either, compared to maybe Chelsea or Liverpool away.

A trip to Molineux is one of those middle-of-the-road matches and although Benitez’s side clearly shouldn’t be complacent, there isn’t much to fear either.
