Don Hutchison has told BBC Radio 5 Live (29/09/20 at 9:50 pm) that he noticed Jose Mourinho ‘laughing his head off’ after Tottenham beat Chelsea via a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday night.

The former Liverpool player also questioned whether Mourinho shook Frank Lampard’s hand when the game ended because the duo did have some words on the touchline during the game.

After a lacklustre first-half display, Erik Lamela equalised late in the game to take the game to penalties, with Mason Mount missing the divisive spot-kick.

When the game ended, Hutchison questioned why Spurs didn’t go for the win from the start, as he shared his views on Mourinho after the full-time whistle.

“I didn’t know if the cameras picked up at the end of the game and I couldn’t quite see whether Jose Mourinho shook Frank Lampard’s hand,” Hutchison told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I am hoping that he did. But what happened was when they won the penalty shoot-out. Jose sprinted right down the tunnel, with one of his coaching staff laughing his head off.

“I don’t know why he didn’t set his team up at the very start to win the game. They were very passive and got nowhere near Chelsea. They found it very, very easy in the first half. It was too comfortable.

“In the second half, it was a change of attitude from Spurs. Much better.”

Before the game, Mourinho was writing off Tottenham’s chances of progressing given their recent injuries and packed schedule.

And despite Heung-Min Son being out injured and Harry Kane starting off from the bench, Spurs managed to pull through.

But they will be in action once again on Thursday for a Europa League qualifier before their Premier League showdown with Manchester United on Sunday.
