Tottenham travel to take on Fulham in the FA Cup this afternoon.
General View of Craven Cottage
Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur will draw 1-1 at Craven Cottage in this afternoon’s FA Cup clash.
Fulham head into the game having beaten Cardiff City and Hull City in the previous rounds, with Slavisa Jokanovic’s men impressing in this year’s competition.
The Cottagers have won three of their last four Championship games, and lie nine points adrift of the play-offs with a game in hand on sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.
Fulham are one of the better sides in the Championship, and will be a real banana skin for Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur as they lock horns in West London this afternoon.
Spurs have endured a nightmare week having been beaten 2-0 by Liverpool last weekend before also suffering a 1-0 loss at the hands of Gent in Thursday’s Europa League clash.
Mauricio Pochettino won’t want to lose three games in a row, and that may mean that he puts out a strong side to not only make sure that Spurs go through to the quarter-finals, but also restore some confidence.
Tottenham have won seven of the last nine games against Fulham, but the Cottagers did win the last FA Cup meeting between the two sides, as Fulham won 4-0 at Craven Cottage in January 2011.
Mark Lawrenson
Ahead of this afternoon’s game, pundit Mark Lawrenson has heaped praise on Fulham, telling BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham ‘might struggle’ to win today’s game, but backed them to win a replay after a 1-1 draw.
“Fulham are one of the most attractive teams to watch in the Championship.” said Lawrenson. “There is a lot of talk of 16-year-old left-back Ryan Sessegnon, who is an outstanding prospect, but Tom Cairney in midfield is a very good player. In Slavisa Jokanovic, the former Watford boss, they have a manager who really should still be in the Premier League as well.”
“We are not quite sure what sort of team Tottenham will put out. They included Harry Kane, Dele Alli and other first-choice players from the start against Gent in the Europa League on Thursday night which might be a factor. I think Tottenham might struggle to get the job done at Craven Cottage, but I think they will come through a replay back at White Hart Lane,” he added.
