What a stunning way for Patrick Bamford to announce his long-awaited return at Leeds United.
The 28-year-old climbed off the bench to rescue a point for Leeds in this afternoon’s visit of Brentford at Elland Road.
Bamford, who had been injured since September, was on hand to convert a fierce cross from Raphinha in the dying seconds, as the West Yorkshire outfit secured a 2-2 draw.
Okay, Leeds could and absolutely should have won this contest.
However, a point definitely doesn’t represent an awful result for Marcelo Bielsa’s players.
And truthfully, Bamford scoring in the closing seconds was perfect.
Here’s how former Leeds United player Matthew Kilgalon reacted to the equaliser, telling BBC West Yorkshire Sport.
“For some reason, when these players go up it just comes to them! That ball was whipped in by Raphinha as well. You can tell he was buzzing with that – shirt was off….great.”
Absolutely perfect player
Of all the people Bielsa would’ve wanted to score, it was Bamford.
Remember, the Christmas period is extremely gruelling in English football, with Premier League outings every couple of days.
Because Bamford scored here, the former Middlesbrough attacker will be full of confidence going into the remaining fixtures this month.
His importance to this outfit cannot be understated, evident by how United have found themselves battling relegation when Bamford has been absent.
But the marksman is well and truly back and Leeds could, in theory, propel themselves up the Premier League ladder going forward.
