Danny Gabbidon has urged the Liverpool midfield to ‘help’ Trent Alexander-Arnold with his defensive duties. The full-back struggled against Kaoru Mitoma at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Liverpool travelled to the Amex Stadium this Saturday afternoon in their 18th fixture of the Premier League season. They arrived on the south coast just seventh in the standings while the Seagulls ranked in eighth. Jurgen Klopp’s team had just one more point before kick-off.
Alexander-Arnold has featured in each of the Anfield natives’ top-flight matches so far this term. He has also started in 16 of his 18 appearances but had only provided one assist and a goal during his previous 17. The 24-year-old had received more yellow cards (2), as well.

Klopp has constantly kept faith in Alexander-Arnold despite his £180k-a-week ace regularly struggling in his defensive duties. Forwards have often enjoyed success getting around the 18-cap England international. He has also occasionally given forwards too much space, too.
Liverpool have conceded several goals already this season due to defensive mishaps from Alexander-Arnold. He also endured a nightmare against Brighton earlier this season when they drew 3-3 at Anfield. The right-back showed a worrying lack of awareness in October.

Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold met Mitoma amid the Brighton star’s strong run
Former Wales defender Gabbidon felt just the first half this Saturday showed Mitoma had Alexander-Arnold’s number after Liverpool and Brighton returned to the break level at 0-0.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold needs some help now, we’ve seen enough,” Gabbidon stated on BBC Radio 5 Live. “Someone, whoever is playing on the right side of midfield needs to cut Mitoma’s space, come back and support.”

Alexander-Arnold returned to the Liverpool dressing room at half-time having failed to win possession in his only tackle at Brighton. Meanwhile, the Seagulls’ £4.5m winger, Mitoma, completed his only attempted dribble and took one shot that went wide, per WhoScored.
Mitoma went into Brighton’s game with Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold in fine form. The 25-year-old had scored three goals and assisted another over his previous five Premier League outings. He had also scored against Arsenal and Everton during his last two appearances.
