Writing in the BBC’s predictions column, Jermaine Jenas has been discussing Liverpool’s chances this season.

Like many others, the pundit has high hopes for the Reds this season, and while he has some concerns about the departure of Sadio Mane, he’s excited about what some of the Reds’ younger players can do.

Indeed, Jenas has stated that he can see Curtis Jones having a big season for the Reds, and while the midfielder is injured for the season opener vs Fulham, Jenas thinks he will have a big part to play.

What’s been said?

Jenas gave his view on the state of play at Liverpool.

“I was thinking about Mane going and how he is a massive loss – they have lost one of the best players in the Premier League. But it freshens their team up and they don’t have anything to worry about squad-wise. I can see Liverpool’s younger players like Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones contributing a lot more this season, and they have got the best defence in the league,” Jenas said.

Big season ahead

This could be a massive season for Curtis Jones, and in all honesty, it has to be.

At the age of 21, Jones now needs to make that transition from young prospect to key player, and he should get plenty of chances to prove himself this term.

Jones is certainly good enough to make an impact in Jurgen Klopp’s side, but it’s all about being consistent and stepping up in the big moments from here on in.

Klopp has never been afraid to give Jones a chance, and now it’s time for the youngster to start truly repaying the faith that has consistently been shown in him.

Jones will be sidelined for a few weeks with injury, but upon his return he needs to hit the ground running.
