Chris Sutton suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:49pm, June 15, 2020) that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang does not want to stay at Arsenal.

The former Chelsea and Celtic striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, made the comments while discussing Aubameyang’s recent remarks about his future.

Sutton believes that the Gabon international striker’s recent comments about his future suggest that he is not happy at the Gunners.

The former Borussia Dortmund star told Telefoot last week that it is up to Arsenal to sort out his contract, and added that he wants to win trophies.

Aubameyang is out of contract at the North London outfit at the end of next season, and no new deal is in place.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright hopes that the striker stays at the Emirates Stadium beyond the summer.

Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:49pm, June 15, 2020): “He is clearly unhappy, isn’t he? Because he did not have to say what he said.

“And if he wanted to win things, with the greatest respect, he wouldn’t want to sign for Arsenal again, would he? There will be other suitors who are after him.”

Wright said on BBC Radio 5 Live (7:49pm, June 15, 2020): “It is going to be a job of trying to convince him to say. I pray that because like you say he is going to be 32 next year and is he going to be one of those players that tries to run his contract down?

“Still at 32 is he going to take the chance on Martinelli coming in when he isn’t playing and scoring goals and then his value starts to drop a bit because he is not playing. People would still take him and don’t know how to say it but I am just desperate for him to stay.”

Arsenal stay

Aubameyang may be 30 years of age, but the striker is at the top of his game and is one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League.

Without the former AC Milan man, Arsenal would struggle to finish in the top four of the Premier League table next season.

While the Gunners could lose Aubameyang on a free transfer next summer, that is a risk they would have to take if they want to finish in the Champions League places in 2020-21.
