Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has been discussing Aaron Ramsdale and the impact he’s had since joining Arsenal.

Ramsdale joined the Gunners for a big fee, around £24m, and at the time, many supporters weren’t best pleased with the idea of signing a goalkeeper who’d been relegated from the Premier League in back to back seasons.

However, since arriving, Ramsdale has barely put a foot wrong and he’s made some show-stopping saves since taking the number one shirt from Bernd Leno.

Campbell has been very impressed by Ramsdale.

What’s been said?

The BBC pundit had nothing but good things to say about the former Sheffield United man.

“The fact of the matter is that he was relishing the challenge of coming to Arsenal. He got some stick from Arsenal fans who weren’t happy about the price and were trying to dig him out on social media. He was fully in and one of the comments he made was that he was here to be number one. That’s what I want to hear from anyone joining Arsenal,” Campbell said.

“He’s proved himself, not fully there yet, but he’s making a difference at the back, especially with Ben White and Gabriel, for sure.”

Exceeded expectations

The goalkeeper has certainly gone above and beyond since joining Arsenal in the summer.

Initially, it looked as though the Gunners’ fanbase had every right to be sceptical about signing a goalkeeper with such a dodgy record at this level, but he’s looking every bit a top-level goalie so far.

Of course, it’s still early days and confidence is such a massive part of being a goalkeeper, but at the age of just 23, Ramsdale could go on to become even better.
