Pat Nevin has raved about Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on BBC Radio 5 Live (3:37pm, May 2, 2021) for his performance against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
Aubameyang was in Arsenal’s staring lineup for their Premier League game against Steve Bruce’s side this afternoon.
The 31-year-old Gabon international striker scored the second goal for the Gunners in the 66th minute before he was replaced by Martin Odegaard in the 78th minute.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin was following the match for BBC Radio 5 Live, and the Scotsman was impressed by the display produced by Aubameyang.
Nevin said about Aubameyang on BBC Radio 5 Live (3:37pm, May 2, 2021): “I wouldn’t call it a shift. I would say he got through the game and he kept his energy when he needed them.
“I don’t think he was massively running into areas that would frighten defenders, but he kept himself in the game and when the opportunity came, he was right up for it. It was a very, very intelligent display from Aubamayeng today.”

How did Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang play for Arsenal?
Aubameyang has only just recovered from illness, and the striker was far from his best against Newcastle.
However, the Gabon international striker took his goal well and was at the right place at the right time.
According to WhoScored, the former Borussia Dortmund star took four shots, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 100%, took 33 touches, and put in one cross.
Encouraging for Villarreal game
Aubameyang doing well against Newcastle today bodes well for Arsenal’s Europa League tie against Villarreal this coming Thursday.
The Gunners went down 2-1 in Spain in the first leg this past Thursday, and Aubameyang starting in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium will certainly enhance the North London club’s chances of winning it and progressing to the final.
Aubameyang has not had the best of seasons, but he could play a big role in the final stretch of the campaign.
