Pat Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 live (3:55pm, January 17, 2021) that nobody will remember the assist that Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn provided for Tanguy Ndombele yesterday.

Ndombele scored a superb goal for Tottenham in the second half of their Premier League game against Sheffield United away from home on Sunday.

The France international midfielder flicked the ball over United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from the left corner of the six-yard area and with his back to goal, as Spurs won 3-1.

While Ndombele has been praised for his stunning effort, former Chelsea winger Nevin, who now works as a pundit for BBC sport, noted the assist from Bergwijn.

The 23-year-old Netherlands international winger – who cost Spurs £27 million in transfer fees when they signed him PSV Eindhoven in January 2020, as reported by BBC Sport – found Ndombele with a wonderful scooped ball.

Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 live (3:55pm, January 17, 2021): “The assist was magical. It was a scooped ball through by Bergwijn, and it’s a magical assist. He scooped it, it’s a really imaginative play. Nobody is going to remember that because they are all going to remember the goal.”

Important player for Tottenham Hotspur

Bergwijn is a very good winger who has established himself as an important player for Spurs.

The 23-year-old works hard for the team and helps out defensively, and for Tottenham to win the Premier League title this season, the young winger will have to be on top of his game throughout.

According to WhoScored, the winger has made eight starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League and has made one start and three substitute appearances in the Europa League for Spurs so far this season.
