Noel Whelan has said on BBC Radio Leeds that Helder Costa is not good enough for Leeds United.
The former Leeds striker, who now works as a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, made the comments about Costa following the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend.
The 27-year-old winger did not play in the Premier League game which Leeds lost 2-0 due to injury.
Whelan believes that Costa has failed to make an impact at Leeds, and thinks that if the Premier League club are to sell the former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger, then there is a very good chance that they will have to do so at a loss.
As reported by BBC Sport, Leeds paid Wolves £16 million in transfer fees to sign the winger on a permanent contract last summer.
Whelan has said on BBC Radio Leeds, as transcribed by InsideFutbol: “He has done nothing, but I just think when we look at our squad can we afford to let certain players go? I agree, I don’t think he is good enough, but I just don’t think we can allow or let him go right now.
“And who is going to take him? We are going to [have to] take a massive hit on that. £17m. Probably sell him for what? £8m? We aren’t going to get double figures for him.“

Should Leeds United sell Helder Costa?
Costa did relatively well at Leeds during his loan spell last season, but the winger has failed to make a huge impact in the Premier League this campaign.
The 27-year-old is struggling to start regularly for the Whites when he is fit, but perhaps Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa should give him at least until January 2022 to show what he is capable of.
According to WhoScored, Costa has made 13 starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League for Leeds this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in the process.
