Jonathan Woodgate has claimed that it is ‘amazing’ where Trent Alexander-Arnold can find himself on the pitch at times, as Liverpool suffered a 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Liverpool’s all-action right-back came in for some serious stick for his performance in Naples, but Woodgate defended the player and stated that he is still ‘outstanding’, as he told BBC Sport.
Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t have envisaged this situation where his team are dropping points in the Premier League and now they have made matters worse by producing one of their worst defensive displays under his stewardship.
Questions are being asked, left, right and centre of some key players, including the likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.
All three have started the season like the shadow of players that have been so dominant for so many years under Klopp, but could all of that be now coming to an end?
Either way, during Liverpool’s defeat against Napoli, former England defender Woodgate spoke about the positional play of Alexander-Arnold.
“It’s amazing some of the places Alexander-Arnold finds himself on the pitch,” said Woodgate. “Always really high up. Never really back when Liverpool have the ball.
“He really plays super high up the pitch. Not as high as Robertson is. Alexander-Arnold is in for some criticism, but he is still an outstanding player.”

There have been signs already this season that have worried many Liverpool supporters, but last night’s display, especially from a defensive standpoint, is now the biggest alarming point.
Klopp has talked about the club possibly needing to ‘reinvent’ itself, well, that either comes with big changes to his XI or a change of system.
During the German’s time on Merseyside, he has always gone one way and that’s in the faces of his opponents, so will that change?
Or is it the more likely scenario of players perhaps no longer having a future under Klopp, so the Anfield faithful might now see little of them going forward?
