Richard Foster has told BBC Sportscene that Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy is better at making forward runs than Rangers star Alex Lowry when comparing the two players – after Mooy scored a brace, and Lowry starred at Ibrox.
Lowry, 19, was afforded his first start of the season for Rangers on Wednesday night. Injury had hampered his progress after an eye-catching end to the campaign last season. He lasted 67 minutes before being withdrawn.
Rangers cruised to a fourth win in four under Michael Beale – thanks to goals from Alfredo Morelos, Connor Goldson and Malik Tillman. At Easter Road, it was also plain-sailing. Celtic made it seven wins in a row, winning 4-0.
Mooy, back from his excursions in Qatar, got a brace. Daizen Maeda also returned with a wonderful effort, while Kyogo netted his 14th league goal of the season. Foster, in his analysis, compared the elder Mooy, to Lowry.
“We saw him in a more-advanced role, tonight. He’s clever. Comparing him to Lowry, he times his runs a bit better. He doesn’t make as many runs, but the ones he does are important. Fantastic penalty. All-round good midfielder.”

Foster: Celtic midfielder Mooy better than Rangers star Lowry
Mooy is a player of supreme experience. He made his 400th appearance for club and country on Wednesday night. So, of course, he is going to be able to time his runs better than Lowry – choosing when to go, and when to stay.
Lowry, though, has enormous potential. He has the work rate, agility and speed that Mooy now lacks. If Lowry can continue to mould his game and work on little areas, being able to time his runs, he can easily eclipse Mooy.
Ahead of Monday’s Old Firm clash, it is likely that Lowry drops out of the side. Mooy may be given another starting brief by Ange Postecoglou, given his brace. Celtic can go 12 points clear, and end the title race, with a victory.
