Garth Crooks believes that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could be sacked for his treatment of Mesut Ozil, as per his comments on BBC Sport.

Arteta has excluded Ozil from his Arsenal team since the start of the season, with the German playmaker failing to even make it into his Premier League squad.

Arteta’s decision has not been vindicated so far, as Arsenal have badly struggled creatively over the first half of the campaign.

And Crooks feels that freezing Ozil out could turn out to be an error which gets Arteta the sack.

“Bernd Leno stated recently that the midfielder has been a model professional throughout this difficult time for him,” Crooks said.

“In which case, I have to question the judgement of Arteta leaving Ozil out at all. Such a decision makes no sense. Ozil’s omission contributed to Emery losing his job and it may, during this awful run of games, do the same to Arteta in the end.”

Arteta has refused to official confirm that Ozil won’t make it back into Arsenal’s squad in January, but that does appear unlikely now.

Arteta seems to want to build his Arsenal side without the World Cup winning midfielder, but for that decision to pay off results will have to improve sharply.

Arsenal are currently sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table, and unless they climb up the table, Arteta’s decision to leave Ozil out will continue to attract scrutiny.

At the moment Arsenal look like sticking by Arteta, with the board continuing to keep faith in him, but if results continue to be so poor it remains to be seen how long their patience will last.
