Chris Sutton has claimed that Gabriel Jesus would be a ‘massive upgrade’ for Arsenal and it would be a ‘big statement’ if they signed the Tottenham transfer target, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The Premier League season may well be over, but Arsenal and Spurs are still locking horns, this time off the field of play and in the summer transfer market.

Manchester City’s wantaway versatile forward is a sought-after player, but will he end up donning Tottenham or Arsenal colours?

Given that Spurs have Golden Boot winner, Heung-Min Son and star man, Harry Kane, as their forward players, it’s obvious that it’s their north London rivals that need Jesus more.

And Sutton made it clear that if Jesus signs on the dotted line at the Emirates, then he is an improvement on what they already have, as he questioned if Mikel Arteta can rely upon Eddie Nketiah.

“He’s an upgrade for Arsenal,” said Sutton. “He’s a massive upgrade for Arsenal. Eddie Nketiah, is he the one to pin your hat on to score the goals which raises the level for Arsenal? Maybe he gets them into the Champions League.

“If Arsenal sign Gabriel Jesus, then that’s a big statement signing. You are sounding like you (speaking to an Arsenal fan) that you have big doubts over Jesus.

“I am not sure Guardiola doesn’t fancy him. He rotates and doesn’t play him centre-forward. He used him off the right-hand side, at times.”

SHOULD JESUS SIGN FOR TOTTENHAM OR ARSENAL?

Jesus has been used to playing for a team in the Champions League and one that has also been winning the Premier League title on multiple occasions.

Then surely Jesus’ next step, if he were to leave the Etihad, would be to join another team in the Champions League, which would rule out Arsenal.

But, it seems as though the versatile forward is keen on a move to Arsenal, which would be music to the fans’ ears, as Tim Vickery warned the Gunners that they need to be very careful about signing Jesus.

At the Emirates, he earns regular minutes and more starts compared to Tottenham, but the latter can provide him playing in the biggest club competition in the world.
