Alex Mowatt featured for Leeds United against Cambridge United in the FA Cup on Monday evening.
Noel Whelan has told BBC Sport (22:00) that he was impressed with the performance of Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt against Cambridge United.
Mowatt featured for Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup against Cambridge away from home at the Cambs Glass Stadium.
The 21-year-old midfielder started the tie and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Whites staged a 2-1 comeback victory.
Shaun Derry’s side took the lead in the 25th minute when Uche Ikpeazu found the target.
Stuart Dallas restored parity for Leeds 11 minutes into the second half, and Alex Mowatt doubled the advantage on 63 minutes.
Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Mowatt.
The Englishman has also suggested that the youngster needs to contribute more and that he has a future at Elland Road.

“Mowatt made some clever runs in difficult conditions and got a great shot off to test the keeper – he had a lot more pace and energy about him, and his ball for the equaliser was lovely,” Whelan told BBC Sport (22:00).
“He’s shown Monk that he’s still here and still fighting. Does he need to consider a move?
“Well, this evening will have shown the manager that he can be the next man in the number ten role if Roofe goes out wide when Doukara isn’t up to scratch. He’s at a fantastic club but has to contribute.”

Mowatt is a very talented and promising midfielder, and he is only 21 years of age.
The youngster has not played as much as he would have wanted to so far this season, but he remains a superb footballer.
The Englishman has featured in 13 Championship matches for Leeds so far this campaign, creating six chances in the process.
