Leeds United beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Elland Road this afternoon.
Leeds United’s Robert Green
Former Leeds United ace and current pundit Danny Mills has told BBC Sport that Robert Green reminds him of former Whites goalkeeper Nigel Martyn.
Leeds were in Championship action earlier today as they hosted Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road in a local derby with play-off ramifications.
The two sides were locked on 58 points in fifth and sixth respectively, with a win for either side edging them closer to guaranteeing a spot in the play-offs at the end of the season.
Much like in August, it was Leeds who came out on top, as Chris Wood’s goal – stabbing home unmarked inside the box from Gaetano Berardi’s cross – proved to be the winning goal.
The game wasn’t without drama though, as after Souleymane Doukara was adjudged to have fouled Sam Hutchinson, Jordan Rhodes stepped up to take the resulting penalty for Wednesday – only for Robert Green to pull off a superb save.
Green was the main man again for Leeds just a week after a fine performance against Ipswich Town last weekend, and he has today been hailed by former Leeds ace and current pundit Danny Mills.
After Green’s penalty save, Mills told BBC Sport that it was a great stop from the Leeds goalkeeper, before comparing him to former Leeds stopper Nigel Martyn.

Martyn – also a former England international – made more than 200 league appearances for Leeds having become a reliable goalkeeper, and Mills admitted that he sees similarities between the two.
“What a save from Rob Green,” said Mills. “Full-stretch down to his left hand side and he gets his fingertips to it. Unbelievable few minutes. It was a soft penalty but you can understand why it was given.”
“It was a decent penalty into the corner from Jordan Rhodes. Green has had some criticism this season but he has been man enough to carry on. He reminds me a bit of Nigel Martyn. When you need him to make big saves, he makes them,” he added.
Martyn actually took to Twitter himself to offer his view on the penalty, suggesting that Green pulled off a great save as the goalkeepers union was in full effect this afternoon.
