It looks like Rangers are closing in on a deal to sign Ianis Hagi.

According to The Record, the Romanian attacker will join the Gers in a £5 million permanent deal within weeks.

Hagi joined Rangers on a half-season loan from Genk in January and lit up Ibrox on a number of occasions since – particularly in the Europa League.

But BBC pundit Michael Stewart is confused about the finances.

Rangers posted losses of £11 million back in November and with a lack of gate revenue at Ibrox for the past two months, and light Blues’ playing staff deferring their wages, Stewart isn’t sure how the Old Firm club can pull off a £5 million signing right now.

Before the global health crisis, Rangers were on the brink of securing a £20 million injection from businessman Stuart Gibson.

The club’s interim chairman Douglas Park revealed recently that the £11 million needed to complete the season has been filled by existing investors at Ibrox.

Going forward, it remains to be seen whether Gibson returns to the table with his cash injection.
