Noel Whelan has suggested to BBC Sport that Pablo Hernandez played well for Leeds United against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.

Leeds returned to winning ways in the Championship with a 2-0 victory over Brighton at Elland Road.

New Zealand international striker Wood was the star of the show for the West Yorkshire outfit.

The 25-year-old former West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City man put the home team in the lead in the 63rd minute, and doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 85th minute.

Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Hernandez.

The 31-year-old Spaniard, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, started the match and played for 89 minutes.

“Hernandez should be proud of himself today,” Whelan told BBC Sport. “Another high-five from the manager and rightly so.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday evening, hosts Leeds had 50% of the possession, took 11 shots of which three were on target, and earned three corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Brighton had 50% of the possession, took 12 shots of which three were on target, and earned eight corners, according to BBC Sport.
