Chris Sutton has stated that Michael Carrick has done a ‘really good’ job at Middlesbrough after it was suggested that he should replace David Moyes at West Ham United.

There has been a lot of pressure on David Moyes’ shoulders this season, but Chris Sutton argued that the under-fire Scotsman ‘deserves’ to see the season out in West Ham colours.

If those at the London Stadium, were to pull the trigger so late on in the season, then one popular name doing the rounds is that of former West Ham midfielder Michael Carrick at Boro.

The 41-year-old was appointed as Middlesbrough boss back in October when they were one point above the Championship’s relegation zone.

Fast forward to the present and they are now fighting for automatic promotion to the Premier League, with seven games of the season left, although, they were dealt a blow following their defeat to Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield on Saturday – Carrick was previously asked about the recently-vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace.

Either way, it was put to Chris Sutton by a West Ham United fan that Moyes should be replaced, with Carrick’s name coming up as a possible contender and he issued the following response, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“Michael Carrick has done a really good job at Middlesbrough,” said Sutton. “You have got a guy, who has been around the block in David Moyes, who has had a wonderful managerial career.

“You see how tight it is at the bottom of the league, then surely he has the chance to see the season through.

“But if they lose (to Southampton), then it could turn ugly.”

NO POINT CHANGING NOW

Unless there is an obvious in-your-face candidate to replace Moyes at the London Stadium right now, then there is no point in booting him out.

Come the end of the season, it will probably be a different story, unless West Ham were to win the Europa Conference League.

All season long, and after a summer of serious spending, there has always been serious heat on Moyes’ job, and in truth, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the duo went their separate ways in the summer, but there isn’t any real point in doing so now.
