Everton lost against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Former Bournemouth and Birmingham City striker Steve Claridge has praised Southampton’s performance against Everton on BBC Sport.
Southampton returned to winning ways on Sunday evening with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton at home in the Premier League.
Charlie Austin’s goal in the first minute proved to be the difference between the two sides at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Claridge was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Southampton against Everton.
The former Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has also stated that the Toffees are a work in progress.
“What Ronald Koeman will take from this game is, ‘That is how I want my team to play over the next few months’,” Claridge told BBC Sport (18:28).
“There was a real fluency to this Saints side here today. Everton are still a work in progress team, a bit of a bits-and-pieces-side.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday evening, hosts Southampton had 53% of the possession, took 17 shots of which seven were on target, and earned five corners, according to BBC Sport.
Visitors Everton had 47% of the possession, took 13 shots of which one was on target, and earned two corners, according to BBC Sport.
Southampton are 10th in the Premier League table at the moment, while the Merseyside outfit are currently seventh in the standings.
