Neil Maddison has praised Cameron Archer for the Aston Villa star’s latest display on loan to Middlesbrough. The striker fired a brace and two assists against Norwich City.

Boro thrashed the Canaries 5-1 at home in the Championship on Friday night to boost their hopes of promotion. Archer struck Michael Carrick’s side’s third and fourth goals late in the first half. The 21-year-old also fed Aaron Ramsey and Chuba Akpom for their first and fifth.

Archer now has eight goals and six assists since joining Middlesbrough on loan from Aston Villa this January. Unai Emery agreed to send the striker to Teesside to secure regular first-team minutes. He had only played seven times for just 51 minutes at Villa Park this season.

Norwich City struggled to handle the Aston Villa loanee against Middlesbrough

Emery had further only fielded Archer for seven minutes in a solitary appearance after the Spaniard took charge in Birmingham. But Carrick has afforded the forward starting roles in 13 of his 17 outings. Archer has further opened 13 of his 16 Championship games thus far.

Norwich struggled to contain Archer from the start as Middlesbrough thrashed the Carrow Road natives on Friday. The Aston Villa loanee found his fellow Villans gem, Ramsey, to put Boro ahead after just seven minutes as the midfielder tapped the ball home at the far post.

Archer would get the first of his goals in the 43rd minute as the forward cushioned the ball before picking out the far corner. He then hit home again on 45’+6 after reacting first to the loose ball in the box. Archer also left Akpom with a simple finish to net in the 49th minute.

What has Neil Maddison said about Cameron Archer’s latest display?

As the heavy downpour continued at Middlesbrough, Norwich struggled to stop Aston Villa loanee Archer from carving the Canaries open. The striker found space at will to excede his seven goals and one assist on loan to Preston North End in the second half of last season.

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Maddison also loved how Archer played Akpom in for an easy finish under the crossbar, despite the Aston Villa loanee being on to score a hat-trick.

“It’s beautiful play,” he told BBC Tees. “There’s a switch play and Hayden Hackney reads it. Cameron Archer does ever so well and put it on a plate for Chuba Akpom, who can’t miss.”
