BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson predicts West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham travel to take on West Ham United this weekend.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur will play out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Hammers lost their opening three games of the season at the hands of Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle United, but have hit back with a win over Huddersfield Town and a draw at West Bromwich Albion.

With a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers in midweek, West Ham have yet to concede a goal in September, and manager Slaven Bilic will be hoping that it’s a sign of his side turning the corner.

Bilic will also be hoping to produce something of a shock and beat London rivals Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, replicating last season’s 1-0 home win over Spurs at the London Stadium.

Tottenham head into the game having endured some struggles at Wembley, taking just two points from three games at their temporary home in the Premier League, whilst they only just edged past Barnsley with a 1-0 win in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

However, away from home, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have thrived so far this term, having beaten Newcastle United 2-0 and Everton 3-0 with two strong performances.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks the two sides will play out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium, backing West Ham to get something out of the game.

Lawrenson added that Tottenham’s struggles at Wembley will remain a topic of conversation, and whilst their away form is good, this isn’t an easy trip having lost in East London back in May.

“Tottenham slipped up again at home last week, when they had to settle for a draw against Swansea, and results like that are not going to stop people talking about them struggling at Wembley,” said Lawrenson. “Spurs do not have to worry about that for a few weeks now, though, because this the first of three away games in a row for them in the Premier League and Champions League, but I don’t think things will get any easier for them at the weekend.”

“After they made such a poor start to the season, West Ham’s form has picked up in the last couple of weeks. Slaven Bilic’s side have taken four points from their past two matches and I think they will get something from this game too,” he added.
