Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham to beat Watford 2-0.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will beat Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Watford head into the game having drawn 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, as Troy Deeney’s 100th goal for the club cancelled out Yohan Cabaye’s opener.

The Hornets have a number of injury problems right now, and Walter Mazzarri is struggling as a result. With just one win and four points taken in the last six games, Watford are sliding down the table, and need to string results together to make sure they don’t get dragged into a relegation battle.

They face a tough test today though, as Tottenham Hotspur make the short trip to Vicarage Road in search of a fourth straight victory.

Spurs hammered Southampton 4-1 in midweek to follow up on wins over Hull City and Burnley, and Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to pick up another win to strengthen his chances of a top four finish.

In the corresponding fixture last season, Spurs claimed a dramatic late winner thanks to Heung-min Son’s injury time back heel – and Mark Lawrenson is predicting another win for Tottenham at Vicarage Road.

Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham will keep another clean sheet in a 2-0 win, which would keep the pressure on the top four, and particularly Arsenal, who play Crystal Palace later in the day.

The former Liverpool defender noted that he thinks Tottenham have ‘got something about them’ right now, and can’t see any that an ‘ordinary’ Watford side stop Tottenham from maing it four wins in a row.

“Even before Tottenham put four goals past Southampton I looked at Spurs and thought they have just got something about them at the moment,” said Lawrenson. “Watford, in contrast, looked ordinary in their draw with Crystal Palace. I don’t see them stopping Tottenham from making it four wins in a row,” he added.
